Characteristics

Thermosetting moulding compounds have the characteristics that they can be processed at relatively low temperatures (plasticising: about 80°C; curing: about 170°C) and that they can no longer be deformed after curing. Due to their structure they are thermally stable, withstanding temperatures many times that of the processing temperature before burning or degrading. Different characteristic values decrease gradually with increasing temperature rather than dropping abruptly, giving these materials an extremely high safety margin regarding short-term temperature increases.
The reinforcing material (fibres) used largely determine the mechanical properties of thermosetting moulding compounds and can be adjusted accordingly, depending on the resin base, to meet customer requirements. The resins used mainly influence other properties and determine which product groups can be used for the required application, depending on the corresponding characteristics.

If you click on "Comparison of properties" you will obtain a table summarising the characteristic properties of the different product groups, which should help you to find the best product for your application. For more detailed information please contact our technical staff.
